Do I need GA4 or does Universal Analytics work?

The integration is designed for GA4 (Google Analytics 4), which is Google's current analytics platform. Universal Analytics was sunset in July 2024. If you have not migrated yet, the QR-Hero integration only supports GA4.

Does QR-Hero send data directly to Google Analytics?

No. QR-Hero appends UTM parameters to the redirect URL. When the scanner's browser loads the destination page, your existing GA4 tracking code picks up the UTM parameters and attributes the session accordingly. No direct data integration is needed — it works through standard UTM tagging.

Can I see individual scan events in GA4?

GA4 tracks sessions and events from your website, not individual QR code scan events. Each scan that results in a page view appears as a session in GA4 with the UTM source, medium, and campaign. For individual scan-level data (device, OS, exact timestamp), use QR-Hero's native analytics dashboard.

Will this work if I already use UTM parameters on my QR codes?

Yes. The integration applies default UTM values but allows you to override them on individual codes. If you already have a UTM strategy, you can maintain your existing naming conventions and the GA4 integration will use your custom values.
